Planetary Broadcast Network

Alternate 1953. The nightly news is cheerful, the radiation is casual, and the USS Nebrahoma has vanished in the Pacific. As well-funded micro-nations declare independence and the robots ask for personhood, anchor James Dixon keeps calm and stays on the air — all the way into the Bermuda Triangle.

The show

The news is cheerful. The radiation is casual.

Alternate 1953. The Planetary Broadcast Network transmits nightly from the Hertz Building in Rocket City, Maine York — on 107.3 MC, 1480 A.M. and Channel 7, reaching 46 states and low earth orbit.

Anchor James Dixon is unflappable. He files by radiophone from wherever the story is. And this season the story is everywhere: a vanished aircraft carrier, impossible airships, micro-nations with suspiciously generous Senate funding, and robots who would like to be people.

The tonal key is sincerity. Fantastic technology and atomic-age absurdity are reported with composed newsroom confidence. The audience supplies the irony.
